offramp: A game that shows the difference in strength between these two players. Black is never really in the game. White's position seems to get better and better.
Apr-23-14  optimal play: <<<<THE CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP.>

HODGSON V. WALLACE.>

In the third game the champion adopted the Queen's Gambit.

The game proceeded evenly until the twelfth move, when Hodgson played Kt to K 5, instead of Kt to Q 2, the result being that at the adjournment Wallace had gained a pawn, with a strong position.>

- The Argus (Melbourne, Vic.) issue Friday 24 April 1896>

The sealed move was 24...Rxd6

Time at adjournment; white 58 minutes, black 59 minutes

<<<<<The Chess Championship.>

HODGSON v. WALLACE.>

THIRD GAME WON BY WALLACE.>

HOSTILITIES were resumed at the Sydney Chess Club on Friday night.

When play ceased in the third game last night it was generally considered that Wallace would speedily force his second win.

The prediction was verified by the result, as after seven moves on each side Hodgson resigned.

Wallace expended 15 minutes over his 25th move, and half an hour over his 28th move.

The finish was elegantly played by the winner.>

- Wagga Wagga Advertiser (NSW) issue Tuesday 28 April 1896>

7.Bb5+ appears to be a TN for 1896

Charousek tried it against Alapin the next year, also with success.
