Sally Simpson: In the Andrew Soltis book 'Soviet Chess 1917-1991' page 203.

Soltis mentions a tale recalled by Andrei Batuyev of a Tolush game played 'from a Leningrad Championship'.

Tolush sacked a piece and a crowd grew around his board. Tolush sacked two more pieces and crowd grew thicker and higher.

"Clutching one another by the shoulder the fans hung in the air in defiance of the laws of physics."

Tolush lost and the physics defying wall of bodies collapsed in heap.

No date or the opponents name is given. I'm wondering if it is this game.

Here Tolush is three bits down and went onto lose.

Batuyev does say his Tolush's opponent ran to the Queenside and sacked two bits back and that Tolush lost on time. (Move 40 may indicate the move was played and recorded after the flag fell.)

But as yet I cannot find a Leningrad Tolush loss that fit the 3 pieces down criteria except this one. Perhaps Batuyev was mistaken about the Queenside run of the King. It certainly get chased around the Kingside.
