Sep-02-13  lentil: How could White miss 30. ... Ne6 in a correspondence game?!

fredthebear: White saw the overworked e5-pawn guarding two different units and took advantage of it with 29.Nxf4 threatening the Black queen. White has won a pawn after 29.exNf4 30.RxBd4 but did not see the sting in the tail 30...Ne6. So often at the conclusion of a capture sequence, the last unit to capture is left unprotected on its new square, vulnerable to a counterattack.

This is a good example of a double attack. Mastery is critical to chess success: https://www.chess.com/terms/double-...

After 8.a4 there are just three games in the database. Yet the scoring percentage shows 24 games: Opening Explorer

fredthebear: These two chess giants were born two years apart. Was it playing correspondence chess that developed their chess abilities above normal? Or was it simply their own desire, their motivation to play the game and correspondence chess happened to serve as a medium of opportunity in this case?
