Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-22-13  Kikoman: Nice victory by Gelfand to start the FIDE Grand Prix Paris (2013).
Sep-22-13  Jigsaw42: So Giri blundered the exchange or sacrificed it?
Sep-22-13  Marmot PFL: After shuffling the rooks to make time control white finds the powerful 41 h4! threatening h5 etc. Black could have neutralized this threat with 38...Nxd3 or even 40...Nc5 and Nxd3. It still looks bad though, if the white Q and R ever get to the back row and I doubt black can prevent it in the long run.
Sep-22-13  John Abraham: I like how Giri tried initiating a three move repetition twice between moves 35 and 40. Looked like he sacrificed the exchange to give his bishop and pawn a stronger position. Interesting game

HeMateMe: Gelfi is the Korchnoi of our time. Getting older, but always a threat to beat anyone.
Sep-22-13  Pulo y Gata: I'm inclined to think that he's the Gelfand of our time.
Sep-24-13  MarkFinan: I just didnt get the exchange sac, he was asking a lot of his dsb to protect those 2 pawns in the endgame. Bit cheeky trying to force a draw by rep twice, too.
