Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-18-14  Karpova: This game from the <Fernschacholympiade> (correspondence chess olympiad) was played from May 1937 to January 1938.

Becker could have entered a ♕ endgame 2 ♙s up with 43...f2 44.Rxc8 Rg3+ 45.Kb4 Rxb3+ 46.Kxb3 f1=Q 47.Re8+ Kxe8 48.c8=Q+, but as is shown by his annotations (he gives <43...f2? 44.Rxc8 f1=Q 45.Re8+ Kxe8 46.c8=Q+ Ke7 47.Qe6+> with perpetual), he overlooked the 44...Rg3+ possibility, removing the ♗b3.

Becker gives 46...Kf6 as mistake, as <46...Kd6> was much stronger. He had overlooked 48.Be6.
