Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-29-15  jerseybob: A gripping game from start to finish; kinda reminds me of the ending of Superbowl XXXIV.
Dec-20-15  Caissanist: Jeremy Silman (and Brandwein) annotates the game here: http://www.chess.com/article/view/a... .
Dec-20-15  ChemMac: Only that Steve Brandwein offered me a draw at one point! Yes, I was a pawn up, but my position wasn't too good as the annotations say. However, I declined! Result: nearly twenty minutes of a harangue (on his time)! I didn't disagree with his assessment; I just said that I was playing for enjoyment and the result, whatever it would be, was unimportant!! Finally he quieted down and put his head in his hands dramatically. Finally he moved, so then *I* offered a draw, which OF COURSE he declined as I knew he would. After that my moves were not very good...
Dec-21-15  jerseybob: <ChemMac> Was this "harangue" going on within earshot of the other competitors? Where was the TD to restore some order?
Dec-21-15  ChemMac: <jerseybob> The board was in a side passage just off the main very large hall. There was no Tournament Director visible anywhere. I'd been told my opponent was "a bit crazy". I have no knowledge of the truth of that other than what happened! "He'll offer you a draw - take it! Yes; you ARE higher rated, but this guy is way stronger than you think."

I agree that - if deliberate - attempts to shake the opponent's concentration are, if not illegal, certainly unethical. However, I refuse to blame the result on that....

Dec-22-15  jerseybob: Could 19.Qc2 be an improvement over Qb2? It guards the knight on d3 and gives white time to guard e4 with Bf3.
Jan-06-16  Abdooss: Rest In Peace, Master Steve Brandwein...
