May-04-14  ninja warrior: cool game. i once drew nakamura in a simul at the 2000 national us open in las vegas... he won my queen for a rook & pawn in the opening & sacked the exchange to simplify, but my back-rank pressure was enough to cost him a piece, & at the end of the game my two rooks were unable to overpower his queen due to him ripping open my king's cover & getting a perpetual check... a fighting draw indeed.

he was only 10 at the time, & i was 19, but he was a master already, and beat several grandmasters in the main tournament at that event.

looks like i hit the magical window before he became the monster that he is today. i'd probably get mentally curb-stomped if i played him again.

as a united states citizen, i've considered nakamura the best hope for an american world champion for a while now, so i've closely followed his career since.

i was disappointed that caruana started playing for italy, as he MAY be even stronger, but i digress... even more than i have already.

=D

May-04-14  mrbasso: Just take that pawn next time!

May-04-14  Mating Net: I think White did a great job of restricting the Black Knight and denying it an outpost. F8 is no square for a Knight.

Check It Out: <ninja warrior> Nice post.
May-06-14  ninja warrior: correction: nak was 12 & i was 18 when we played our game.

i remember when he realized he had to drop the minor (due to back-rank pressure), he looked up at me as if to say "really? why don't you just die already?"

of course i was lucky to survive, as i was on the bad end of a closed sicilian & had dropped my queen for rook & pawn to avoid a nasty mate in the opening.

:)

Feb-03-15  gmelfranco: genial tu juego contra la dragÒn o el fiancheto!!!
