The Queen's Birthday match was played by telegraph on Monday, ten a side, in the lecture hall of the School of Arts, Sydney, under the auspices of the School of Arts Chess Club.>

Play commenced at 10.45 a.m., and concluded at 11 p.m.>

Mr. Wallace played a magnificent game, worthy of his abundant laurels.>

The sacrifice of a knight, and the voluntary losing of the exchange of rook for knight, were among the surprises of one of the finest games ever witnessed in Australia, a game which absorbed general attention.>

The announcement of Mr. Wallace's victory was greeted with loud cheers, repeated again and again.>
