Jul-14-14  Karpova: Instead of 23...c6, Alapin suggests the stronger <23...Re2 (24.Re3 Rxf2 25.Re7 Rf1+ 26.Ne1 g6 27.Rh3 Rf7)>.

While Alapin gives 26.f4 a <!> (threatening f5), the move appears to weaken the white position. Perhaps 26.Kc2 is better.

29.b4 gets a <?>, with 29.h4 and <29.a4> (Alapin's suggestion, who says he would have replied <...h5>) as better alternatives.

39.Nxa6 may have been possible.

Jul-14-14  Nosnibor: This particular game is entered twice in the db.Perhaps you can substitute with the A Olson-R Spielmann 1919 game that I have given today under Spielmann`s games collection1
Jul-15-14  Karpova: <Nosnibor: This particular game is entered twice in the db.>

Can you please post a link to the duplicate? A duplicate was not detected by the software. The similar games feature and the Opening explorer don't show a duplicate game either. I couldn't detect a duplicate also, at least not between these two masters as the only other French between them - Spielmann vs Alapin, 1911 - is obviously completely different. I took great care to make sure that this was a new game and that the information was correct. The game score is from one of Alapin's articles on the French defense. To make sure that I didn't make a mistake, I would be thankful to you if you substantiated your claim.

If you want the Olsen-Spielmann game - Rudolf Spielmann - to be featured in the database, just turn it into a pgn file and submit it via the PGN Upload Utility.

Jul-15-14  Nosnibor: <Karpova> Apologies it was a very hot day yesterday.There is no duplication and I will upload the game that I have referred to in due course.
Apr-13-17  zanzibar: This game is part of the Munich Quandrangular (RR4) (1909)... and can be found in

<CW v3 (1909) p134>

The ending note is:

"The black P queens and wins"

suggesting the game continued beyond the recorded end.

Apr-13-17  zanzibar: It's given as R8 in WSZ v12 (1909) p413 G1389.
