  Telemus: ChessBase gives 2.. ♘c6/3.. ♘f6. Gunston played both, 2.. ♘c6 and 2.. ♘f6 in this tournament.

According to the "Manchester Times" of 12 September 1890 he played 2.. ♘f6.

The same move order was published in "The Bristol Mercury and Daily Post" of 4 October 1890. There the game was introduced as follows: <A Special Prize of £5, offered by Mr. E.N. Frankenstein, of London, for the most brilliant game played in the recent International Chess Tournament at Manchester, has been awarded to our esteemed correspondent and contributor, Mr. W.H. Gunston, M.A., Cambridge.>

Jan-04-21  BickeDag: This would make a great GOTD. Pun could be something like "Gunfight"
