 | | MissScarlett: <Golden Shauer> |
|
Apr-26-19 | | mckmac: <Cold Shauer> is more family friendly. |

 | | An Englishman: Good Evening: Quick check online reveals nothing about CW except this one game. Of course, someone with any research skills might discover the full name and a full life, but could not find anything except this. Eh, bien--not the worst sort of immortality. |

 | | Honza Cervenka: I wonder why Capa did not insert obvious 17.Re3 before taking the Pawn on d5. Instead of 20.Kd2 it was correct to agree with draw after 20.Kf1. After 21.Re2 black missed very nice 21...Bb4+!! 22.Nxb4 e3+ 23.Kc3 Qf6+ 24.Kb3 Bf7 pinning the Queen, but Capa immediately blundered with 22.Kd1?? instead of 22.Kc3!, when black has nothing better than 22...Qf6+ 23.Kb3 Be7 (23...Bf7? 24.Rxe3+ Be7 25.Rxe7+ etc.) 24.Rxe3 Rb8+ 25.Ka4 Bxc2+ 26.b3 Qh4+ 27.Ka5 Rb5+ 28.Qxb5 axb5 29.Rxe7+ Qxe7 (29...Kf8? 30.Ba3 +-) 30.Nxe7 Kxe7 31.Kxb5 with equal ending. |

 | | HeMateMe: This pun could have more than one meaning... |
|
Mar-20-25 | | JPi: In a clearly superior opening Capablanca missed a nuance whom consequences were dramatical. Typical of simultaneous performance. As it was noticed previously 17. Re3 consolidates and White attack 18. Qxd5 comes smoothly. |

Mar-20-25 | | stone free or die: <<AE> Quick check online reveals nothing about CW except this one game.> I'll try to check Proquest at some point (if I remember to, that is!)... |

 | | MissScarlett: I considered <Power Shauer> but decided on the environmentally-friendly option. |
|
Mar-20-25 | | erniecohen: If I had one recorded game and it was beating Capablanca (even in a simul), I would probably retire from chess too. |

 | | offramp: <FSR: Very risqué pun. I am aghast.> It's possible that <THAT> activity is non-sexual. |
|
Mar-20-25 | | Teyss: Don't know if it was intended when deciding on this delicate pun, but the initials of Charles Shauer 's names are WC, inverted. |

|
Mar-21-25 | | stone free or die: <An Englishman: Good Evening: <FSR>, you're aghast? I'm an Englishman.> That must make <Missy> a rutabaga. PS- I did look up <Shauer> on Proquest, and found a few hits in the <Detroit Free Press> circa ~1900-1910, but no games. He was noted as "the Pittsburgh ace" or somesuch. <jnpope>, and <Stonehenge>, did a better job tracking him down, including publishing additional games. * * * * *
Aside - Shauer wasn't the only chess player who could lay claim to a golden shower - cf https://www.chesshistory.com/winter... |
