Jun-24-15
 | | Penguincw: 38.Nxf7 was a great move. After 38...Rxh5, material remains balanced, but black's pawns are disjointed. |
Jun-24-15 | | Marmot PFL: Anand and Nakamura both seem likely to win now. It would be very surprising if neither one did. |
Jun-24-15
 | | Penguincw: I remember the last time Giri had a good position. A Giri vs Kramnik, 2015 Hoping for a repeat of that game! |
Jun-24-15 | | Marmot PFL: hammer is kaput. made it through opening but anand's tactics too much in middle game. |
Jun-24-15
 | | Penguincw: Not sure if Topalov is watching the scoreboard, but Anand just beat Hammer! |
Jun-24-15
 | | offramp: This has been the most hard-fought tournament I've seen in 10 years. Lots of wins and I think the average moves/draw has been VERY high. |
Jun-24-15
 | | Penguincw: Oh no, Aronian has blundered against Carlsen (who is in time pressure). |
Jun-24-15
 | | offramp: I suppose that Giri would like to bring his King up. He needs to do something about the h2 pawn first. Perhaps he intends Ng5+, ♙h3, then advance the king. There is no way Topalove will lose this, but Giri might have some jolly manoeuvring around. |
Jun-24-15
 | | chancho: Aronian adding to his losing record versus Carlsen.
And Naka disgusted at blowing his game.
All in all, a very good day.
J/K !! |
Jun-24-15
 | | Penguincw: Carlsen beats Aronian, and moves to -1! |
Jun-24-15
 | | offramp: If the idea of the retreat ending in 43.Nf3 is to prevent ...Be1+, then Giri is showing very good long-range strategy and must be playing to win. |
Jun-24-15
 | | Penguincw: Grr, Nakamura draws against MVL. He had the win, and I had the chessbucks! |
Jun-24-15
 | | WannaBe: My patzers' eyes tell me this is a drawn game. |
Jun-24-15
 | | chancho: Topaloompa looks headed to loserville!
Not over yet, but if Giri finds the moves, adios amigo! |
Jun-24-15
 | | offramp: <Penguincw: Carlsen beats Aronian, and moves to -1!> Since he nip/tucked to the AnjelicaHuston-A1-SuperColossus, Leave-Me Alonian's results have - literally - nose-dived. |
Jun-24-15
 | | scormus: My gut feeling is 1/2-1/2. But Topa is spending a lot of time. Does that meen he is thinking there might be winning chances? |
Jun-24-15
 | | chancho: Anand vs Topalov, final round for the bling!
Who can ask for more? |
Jun-24-15
 | | offramp: <chancho: Anand vs Topalov, final round for the bling!> Oh yeah! And with a bit of luck Anand-Carlsen III in 2016. |
Jun-24-15 | | Tomlinsky: Very patient manouvering by Giri. He could be onto something here with a nice compact setup against those 3 separated pawns now. |
Jun-24-15
 | | offramp: Giri is really doing well. There really isn't much to go on but he is trying his best to create an attack. If I was to play on like this in such a level position then inevitably I would blunder and lose at some point. But these GMs, even in blitz, don't often make calamitous errors. There is little chance of Giri losing so he is playing on "on spec", as Eastenders say. |
Jun-24-15
 | | Penguincw: The quietest game of the round, Grischuk-Caruana, is drawn peacefully (and quietly) after 51 quiet moves. Quietly... |
Jun-24-15 | | Gregor Samsa Mendel: Topalov seems just a little bit out of his element here. |
Jun-24-15
 | | offramp: R & Kt is often so much better that R & B. The same with queens. |
Jun-24-15
 | | scormus: not sure why he spent so long on ... Ra5.
<Gregor Mendel> Yesh, this of position doesn't really suit him, he's still someting of a streetfighter player. |
Jun-24-15
 | | offramp: Does anyone have a computer evaluation? |
