Aug-20-15  pericles of athens: Nice finish! Tuesday puzzle?

30. ? White to play and win.

Feb-27-24  mel gibson: Easy peasy. LOL
Feb-27-24  King.Arthur.Brazil: It is immediate: 30. Rxd7+ ( Kc8? 31. b7+ Kxd7 32. b8=Q) Kxd7 31. b7 Rb4 32. b8=Q Rxb8 33. Bxb8 Kc6 34. Be5 g6 35. f4. Even 31. b7 Rxa7 32. b8=Q Rc7 33. Qg8 Kd6 34. Qxh7... W wins easily.
Feb-27-24  TheaN: The problem with easy endgame puzzles is that there tends to be one clear-cut move to work out, in this case <30.Rxd7+ Kxd7 31.b7 +-> 31....Rb4 32.b8Q Rxb8 33.Bxb8 and 31....Rxa7 32.b8Q are both technical wins. In this case the latter is a tad bit easier for White due to 32....Rc7 33.Qg8 +-.
Feb-27-24  sfm: <Aug-20-15 pericles of athens: Nice finish! Tuesday puzzle?> Good idea, and see, nobody should think that CG.com ignores suggestions. It may just take a bit of time before then are processed. :-)

Black to move. Two bishops against two knights in a very open position. Hmmm.

But the engine says that Black is equal after 24.-,Nec6.

Instead, he grabs one of those scary bishops.

A mistake. Now Black has nothing better to do than what he does, and the a-pawns are removed.

Now the b-pawn is free and nasty, and Black has his back against the abyss. He takes a step further backwards with 28.-,Nd7? and we have seen the rest.

Feb-27-24  stacase: Easier than yesterday (-:
Feb-27-24  Mayankk: Easier than yesterday.

30 Rxd7+ Kxd7 31 b7 is basically resignation for Black although it can play it out for a few more moves. 31 ... Rb4 32 b8=Q+ Bxb8 is hopeless. as is anything else.

Feb-27-24  saturn2: 30.Rxd7 Kxd7 31.b7 pawn cannot be stopped
Feb-27-24  Damenlaeuferbauer: After long thinking, the Armenian-French GM Tigran Gharamian finally found the nice exchange sacrifice 30.Rxd7+!,Kxd7 31.b7,Rb4 (31.-,Rxa7 38.b8=Q +-) 32.b8=Q,Rxb8 33.Bxb8 +-. Very pretty promotion combination in St. Quentin/France!

Feb-27-24  jffun1958: 30.Rxd7+ Kxd7 31.b7 and Black can choose between two different types of elementary endgames: a) 31. ... RxBa7 32. b8=Q with a Q vs R endgame
b) 31. ... Rb4 32. b8=Q Rxb8 33. Bxb8 with a B + pawns vs pawns endgame.
