Jan-24-16  Marmot PFL: Considering threats like Rxb2 I can't blame white for taking the draw here. The computers may find something better for white.
Jan-24-16  fisayo123: Wow, this is some heavy duty prep from Wei Yi. It's no surprise Ding took a draw here.
Jan-24-16  AzingaBonzer: Seems some people on ChessBomb are calling this game "prearranged". Ridiculous.
Jan-25-16  scholes: Considering that Wei Yi has been in time trouble in almost all of his games since Qatar Masters. I am his fan, so follow his games. But in such a complicated game like this both the players had spent less than 5 mins by move 15-16. Then Ding Liren spend half an hour on one move. Other than that this whole game took almost 5 mins. Wei Yi had spent less than 5 min by end of game. I am a Wei Yi fan, but still accepting this game as anything but pre-arranged draw is difficult to believe.
Jan-25-16  whiteshark: <24.Rg1> is worth a try
Jan-25-16  AzingaBonzer: <scholes> Or, y'know, we could go with the sane explanation (that Wei Yi was prepped up and Ding Liren didn't want to face his computer line).

tamar: The move Ding Liren spent 1556 seconds on was 21 g3

Translation: " I thought Be3 prevented Qh4+. Doesn't 21 g3 Nxg3 22 Bf2 win a piece? Why is my opponent playing this? If he plays some weird move after I take the piece, I am doomed. What can it be?"

Answer 22...Qh3 (29 seconds) 23 Bxg3 (140 seconds) 23...Rec8! (25 seconds)

Ding Liren then took 429 seconds to play the repetition sequence.

Not suspicious at all. The astounding rook move would convince anyone they had been caught in a computer line.

Jan-25-16  frogbert: Yeah, this looked very much like a deep computer prep by Wei Yi. Of course, it would've been more fun if Ding Liren accepted the challenge otb, but I guess he chose the professional way out.
Jan-25-16  AzingaBonzer: Apparently, a bunch of kibitzers find the following argument logically valid:

1. The players played an extremely sharp line.
2. One player blitzed out all of his moves.
3. The two players are from the same country.
4. Ergo, the draw must have been prearranged.

Not sure exactly what this says about their intelligence, but it's probably not anything good.
