This was game 4 of the playoff match. Game 2, J Hawkins vs N Pert, 2015, had a similar opening and was drawn.
7...Bh3N <7...h4> V Popov vs Navara, 2015.
8. Qb3! Qc8 9. Qb5 Ne7 10. Ng2 Qd7!?

A good idea in a rapid game. Pert may not have looked farther than Qxb7, ....Rb8 Qa6 and thought that the single move gained, and the initiative, was worth a pawn.
11. Qxb7 Rb8 12. Qa6 f5.
It looks like Pert has definitely decided against castling. He may have decided that at move 6.
13. Bf3 d3! Clearing d4.
14. Re1 Nd4 15. Nf4 Bg4 16. Qxa7 Rd8.

Black was required to waste 2 tempi with ...Rb8-d8 and ...Qc8-d7, but he still has a big attack.
17. Bxg4 Pert says that this is an error, and that <17. Bd5!> is best.
17...hxg4 18. Nxd3 Qd6.
The two pawn formations here are interesting:

White is no less than 4 pawns up!

22. Nb4?? <22. Kg2!= Pert.>
22..gxh4 23. d3 Qh7! Keeping his head!
24. Ncd5 Kf7! The best response to the threat of Nf6+.
25. Bf4 hxg3 26. fxg3.

<Black could now force checkmate with the cavalier 26...Nf3+!!. It's worth looking at with one's mind's eye.>
26...cxd5. But it is still a win.
27. Kf2 Qh2+ 28. Ke3 dxc4 29. Qa6 Rh6 30. Qxc4+ Re6+.

Well played by both players. Pert went postal right from the opening and Hawkins did well to hold him at arm's length.
