Feb-19-17  belgradegambit: Well say what you want about Rapport, he does end up in the most interesting games. Anyone else at this level open with b3?
Feb-19-17  messachess: He got invited to this thing, so he's thought to have something going on.
Feb-19-17  parisattack: He seemed to achieve a dynamic equality out of the opening. Perhaps someone with an engine can tell us where it began to go sour?

V-L is definitely playing some great chess! We'll see how well he breathes +2800.

Feb-20-17  tea4twonty: 20 ♘-K5!= seems an important move in this opening. No ♙ supporting e5 so play it now before 20..Qc7!
Feb-20-17  Jaburu: Rapport-MVL, a typical game of contemporary chess. There are not the traditional plan, there are only short ideas associated with the victory or draw. It does not make sense today to say, as in the past, "a bad plan is better than no plan".
Feb-21-17  mistreaver: There was an interesting possibility for Black at move 6: 6... e5! (sacrificing a piece) 7 f5 Bxf5 8 gxf5 Qh4+ 9 Kd2

And it would appear that Black has sufficient compensation for the piece

e.g. 9... Ne7 10 Nf3 Qh6+ 11 e3 Nf5!

Feb-21-17  Ulhumbrus: If after 20 0-0 Black gains the attack on the king side instead of White this is one justification for 20 0-0-0 instead.
