Richard Taylor: I hate to point out that in almost every variation of the French a pawn goes to e5! But it is a good attack. Both players have to be accurate. White can still lose if she plays inaccurately and there are many choices or possibilities here. The chances are for White though....
Mar-01-17  JimNorCal: Just dialed in--wow!
I'm marginally a Tan fan but it's admirable to see Anna going all out.

Richard Taylor: I think Qd6 was definitely winning but Bd2 might also work...

benveniste: 19. ♕d6 was winning. ♗d2? gives Tan some good escape chance.

Richard Taylor: Bd2 is understandable as now White can defend against the Black attack and keep an advantage. It did seem that Qd6 was winning but I suppose Black had some scary threats against White's K. It cant be easy given the time spent thinking of Bxh7+ which is one of the drawbacks of the rather quick time controls they have these days...

Richard Taylor: Black has to play Nd5 it seems.
Mar-01-17  whiteshark: <19...Rb8??> and it's so quiet you could hear a pin drop....

benveniste: Oops. Anna gets a second chance. Now ♕e6 or ♕f3 wins.
Mar-01-17  me to play: Rb8 is played. Now, Qd6 is even better, winning.

eternaloptimist: <Richard Taylor> Yes that's true but I just like the fact that the moves that Anna played *after* 4.♙e5 are designed to prevent Tan from defending her ♔side. Tan played right into Anna's hands by playing the French b/c Anna has had a lot of success against it. Tan normally plays the Pirc or Sicilian w/ black. I guess she wanted to catch Anna off guard but it looks like it's going to backfire on her.

eternaloptimist: Although now it looks like it will most likely go to the endgame. At first I thought Anna might be able to defeat Tan w/ a ♔side attack.

eternaloptimist: Tan is moving way too quickly. She needs to start taking her time since she is way ahead on the clock.
Mar-01-17  botvinnik64: Well, this looks over as over can be without it being over. Anna is getting back her piece, still up two pawns with a great attack on the K side. Tan plays for a win tomorrow, however, to finish the job...

eternaloptimist: Yes it looks like Anna should win this game easily provided she doesn't blunder. She is low on time now however.
Mar-01-17  whiteshark: Tan finally resigns. <All> Thanks for this fun afternoon, really enjoyed it with you!

HeMateMe: 14.Bxh7+! Holy Lasker Batman! Home prep or did Tan just walk into a bad line for black?

offramp: It's a wonderful "Route 1" game where Muzychuk goes straight for the opponent's queen and keeps going forward until Black resigns. Black can sometimes allow the Bxh7+ scenario but you have to be careful.

Mar-01-17  paavoh: @eternaloptimist. <Tan is moving way too quickly>. Yes, my impression also. If you are not like young Anand, you should sit on your hands...
Mar-01-17  Calli: Tan wastes time with 11...Be7 and 12...a6. There was no reason to retreat the B. 11...Rb1 and 12...b5 is much faster. In fact, the attack with b4 is pretty threatening. Therefore, I wonder why Anna chose 11.a3, weakening the king's position. 11.Kb1 is more solid.
Mar-01-17  CountryGirl: What an exciting game! Enterprising attack by Anna.
