fredthebear: It's impossible for Black to win this, as he lacks sufficient mating material. If White runs out of time, it's a draw. No?

Tabanus: Impossible in practice but not in theory.

Say white Kg8, f6-f7-Rf8 and Bh8, black Kg6 and Nh6# or Ne7#. So that if white's cell phone rang, it would be 0-1 :)

fredthebear: Ring-a-ling, ding-ding! Impossible was a poor choice of words on my part.

Thank you for the fantastic diagram! Of course, Black would surely know to sacrifice the knight for the lone pawn to prevent promotion (leaving insufficient mating material for both colors), since a draw is the best that Black can hope for realistically.
