Jul-02-18  John Abraham: Nepo comes out swinging!
Jul-02-18  Fanques Fair: Strange game.
Jul-02-18  ChessHigherCat: c2 is one unsnatchable pawn here!

Jul-02-18  ChessHigherCat: And more interestingly, this is one unsnatchable bishop:

55...Rxd2 56. Rh3+ Kg7 57. Rdh8

Although chook is completely cooked by that point anyway

Jul-02-18  Whitehat1963: It must be obvious, but I don’t see the finish. And Stockfish isn’t helping.
Jul-02-18  Gregor Samsa Mendel: <Whitehat1963>--<CHC> mentioned above that in order for black to stop the threat of 56 Rh3+ Kg7 57 Rdh8 followed by 58 R3h7#, he has to give up a rook with 55..Rxg7+.
Jul-02-18  Gregor Samsa Mendel: Well, it actually was The Computer that recommended 55..Rxg7+.
Jul-03-18  ChessHigherCat: Hi <GSM>. I'm pretty sure I didn't recommend 55...Rxg7+ because I don't even understand it (I think you pulled a "me" by counting from the wrong side of the board). You mean 55....Rxg2+ 56. Rxg2 Bh6, right?

Check It Out: I don't understand a move like 15.Rac1 allowing 15...Nxe5. I would never let that pawn go like that. Can someone explain the why of it?
Jul-03-18  ChessHigherCat: <Check It Out, Maaaan> You don't mind if I call you by your full name do you?

White's already in a bad position. SF prefers 15. d4 instead but it still loses the e5 pawn because 15...Nxe5 and the white queen is hanging so 16. Qxd7 Nd7 leading to this position (-0.97)

HeMateMe: was white's pawn sac in the opening soiund? It seems later blunders hurt Chucky even more so than Nepo's plan.
Sep-19-18  Count Wedgemore: <HeMateMe: was white's pawn sac in the opening sound?> No, I don't think so. White ends up giving away the important e5-pawn with little or no compensation.

<It seems later blunders hurt Chucky even more so than Nepo's plan> Agreed. In fact, Nepo somewhat misplayed the opening. After 15...Nxe5, Black has not only fully equalized, but he is simply better. It was, like you say, later blunders by Chucky that enabled Nepo to turn things around and cash in the full point.

Sep-19-18  WorstPlayerEver: Rapid game. For the record, Ivanchuk spent hardly any time after 15... Nxe5 until 32... Qb5 He was clearly pushing on time.
