Jonathan Sarfati: Throwing a piece away with 18...♘d3+ looks like a hallucination. 18... f5 would have given a decisive advantage. For example 19.♗g2 c4 and the ♘ comes into d3 safely, with a winning attack on f2.

Richard Taylor: Yes, I had to go to the toilet, and I played it on an impulse, thinking it won, just failed to check it out. Then I realised it was a blunder. I shouldn't have missed f5 which wins. Will Bill, I knew, was trying to get me out of book so he played 3. g4 which isn't very good.

I didn't play well in that tournament but I won games in some subsequent tournaments and at the Club earlier this year my rating went up as I beat three players higher than myself. But Chessgames.com don't seem to interested in my games now. But my game against Lovejoy was better than that game. But as I say, later I did well wining against a number of players higher rated. In fact in 2017 I drew with Daniel Gong. I nearly beat Ben Hague who turned up at Howick-Pak for the games. But in the George I beat Macdonald, Hilton Bennett and a few others. I lost to some others also but they were not egregiously as bad as the games in the Asian Seniors. At the start of 2020 in a tournament I made a brilliant Q sac which led to unavoidable mate. I managed my time well but (yes I played some bad games but I countered well!). I beat Nathan Goodhue and others. I started in the ACC Club Champs today. We have just come out of lockdown so I will see how I go.

Richard Taylor: No, by the way I like Kramnik. I wish the incident between him and Topalov had not occurred it spoilt that match. I liked both players.

I played my move with a kind of flourish, as there was someone watching Bill. So in a moment of tragic hubris I threw my knight onto d3....!

At that moment I thought it was winning. But wily Wild Bill as he has been known to be called, had outwitted me.

It was ridiculous....

But I still shake hands with everyone!

That is the spirit <Richard>. And I also like both Topalov and Kramnik who nowadays is having a great time on Chess24. He is a brilliant commentator .

All the best

I saw some of the Norway tourney but there was some distortion when they had Anand there so I clocked off. I dont like the darkness that Carlsen did. But I can see perhaps why.

I think I am a bit bored with chess commentaries now: I like Kramnik and a few other things, including watching Ostrovskiy as his games are closer to my own level.

The best I have seen -- apart from the coverage of the Anand-Gelfand WCC match at Moscow -- has been the coverage of the Sinquefield Cups and the US Champs. And, in NZ, a few years back, the Queenstown Classic tournaments organized by Murray Chandler....
