Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-15-19  Jamboree: 46. ... Nc6??? Crazy blunder.

Even so, it's amazing how white has black almost in zugzwang on move 46 -- almost every move automatically loses -- even though white has merely two white knights on the same color squares and no other pieces to tie black up! And yet even with that, black's knight can't move, his king can't move without walking into Nf5+ NxB KxPe4, winning for white. Both pawn moves lose.

In fact it looks like black has only ONE move on move 46. and that's 46. ... Bf8, but even that looks pretty grisly after 47. Nf5.

In retrospect, maybe 46. ... Nc6 isn't any more losing than any other move. Amazing open-board zugzwang by two knights!

Jul-15-19  fabelhaft: Well played game by Topalov, especially considering that it was a rapid game. The Lichess analysis tool doesn’t find a single move to complain about even as a minor inaccuracy.
Jul-15-19  SkySports: Jamboree, what about Bg5?
Jul-15-19  NrthrnKnght: Bg5? Ne7 to d5
Jul-16-19  maelith: amazing zugwang position at move 46. all the moves for black are losing.
Jul-17-19  moodini: I don't think that is a zugwang (more a very dominant position) as black would lose if he didn't have to move.
