Jan-17-20  ndg2: Another CK disaster for Artemiev. He should seriously start to consider other openings.

Dubov started exactly like Firouzja (advance variation with h4,h5 and then c4). Looks like this could become the new thing for white players (actually, it's one of the older variations within the advance)

An Englishman: Good Evening: In my playing days, the Advance Variation "enjoyed" a reputation for harmlessness, even inferiority. Not any longer! Dubov does a good job of fiddling around on the c-file, then switching to the King side with 27.g4, then switching to the a-file (!) with 31.Ra5! to finish his King side attack.
Jan-17-20  MordimerChess: I found it interesting that black set up the pawn structure similar to the game played couple of days ago Anand vs Xiong. It was French Defence but the ideas are similar. White didn't need to wait for c3-c4-xd5 attack to open the c file. The c file is opened already and triple battery seems like very powerful stuff. Also advancing g4 with idea of Qxg4 and h5 after... is the same what Anand played against French Defence. I think black didn't do any counterplay on queen side (Qa5 or Qb6) - if black played in French Defence fashion, it should probably be more active and aggressive on queen side and be ready to relocate the king if need (though opened c file is scary). Also exchanging dark square bishop seems to be bad idea - it defended f6 and g5 - weakened key squares for black.

Sorry for longer than usual but somehow I started to enjoy the game instead of focusing on speed ;)
