Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-02-20  tessathedog: Nice technique from the kid.

Two things about this game. Firstly, what a lovely, clear cut zugszwang to finish.

But what I'm really interested in is Cheparinov's decision on move 18 to offer a Queen swap. At the risk of being too dogmatic, Dorfman would be very clear that the side with the two knights should keep Queens on (all other things being equal, and here White's King seems only marginally worse than Black's). And yet...here is a clear case of a strong GM flouting Dorfman. So...do top GM's not agree with one of Dorfman's key ideas, or was Cheparinov thinking about this particular position in some way not apparent to me, which led him to flout the principle on this occasion? It would be very interesting to know of Cheparinov's thinking at that moment. Anyway, the kid didn't hesitate to proceed a la Dorfman and the rest of the game seems to justify his judgment. Well played.
