Apr-28-20  newzild: A startling shot at the end - would make a good Monday.
Apr-29-20  CaliWest: 29...Kxf6 30. Nh5+ Ke5 31. Nf3#
Jan-08-25  goodevans: Henry Pinkerton has but five games in the database here, all of which are losses. Of these, this is the third to feature as GOTD. Has anyone else emulated this ignominious feat?

Honza Cervenka: 27.f4 was a good move, which set up a nice little tactical trap. Neither 27...exf4, nor 28...g5?? were obligatory moves of black. Schories probably foresaw 29.Qxf6+! already when he was playing 26.Nh4.

Teyss: Indeed 29.? is a good Monday puzzle, maybe Tuesday because there are a few variations at the end:
(a) 29...Kf8 30.Qxh8+ Ng8 31.Ng6+ fxg6 (Ke8 32.Qxg8+ Kd7 33.Qxf7#) 32.Rf1+ etc.
(b) 29...Kg8 30.Nh5 Rh7 31.e5 etc.

29.Qxf6+! makes it a worthy GOTD despite Black's suboptimal play towards the end as highlighted by <Honza Cervenka>.

The pun: okay, Spanish game and role of the Knights in the mating line indicated by <CaliWest>. Is there anything else?

Jan-08-25  VictorVonDoom: 29. ...Kxf6 30. Nh5+ Ke5 31. Nf3#

A beautiful queen sacrifice leading to a mate with the two knights, which have combined to cover all the dark squares, with the pawns covering the white squares.

Jan-08-25  VictorVonDoom: The pawn which moved to d5 on move 25 really helped in the checkmate
