fredthebear: Saw it in a flash! Capture/Sacrifice, (Zwischenzug?) and Recapture. Then what happens next?

This game finish is Deadly Checkmate #22 "A Knight on f5" in the book "How to Beat Your Dad at Chess" by Murray Chandler. Of course, this three-piece combination is not an actual checkmate, but it threatens checkmate to set-up a discovered attack that wins the opposing queen, who was decoyed to the trap by the exchange sacrifice.

Ol' FTB is a firm believer in reviewing previously studied material as a means to pattern recognition. Re-read/solve your favorite puzzle books/software often to stay sharp. Such resources insure that one views a wide variety of targets and maneuvers concisely. "Anastasia's Mate", "The Fischer Trap" or "The Petrosian Draw" might not occur too often in actual games, but regular review of tactical resources will implant such in thy mind's arsenal. Do the same with your favorite instructional endgame book. Frequent review of understood material pays dividends, like a butcher sharpening his knife before the carving.
