May-17-25  Walter Glattke: I tested 24.-Qxg5 25.fxg5 Rf3 26.Bg2 Be5 27.Bxa7 Ra8 28.Bd4 Bf4 29.a3 Bd5 30.Bxf3 exf3 31.Qf2 Re8 32.Kg1 Re2 33.Qh4 Rg1+ 34. Kh1 f2 35.Rxf2 Rg3+ 36.Rg2 Rxg2 37.Qh6/Qxg4/Bf2/etc. 37.-Rg3# In the match we have got 31.-Be3 32.Rd1 Qxd1 33.Bxd1 Kg1 "mate in 100" +3.0
May-17-25  King.Arthur.Brazil: The king thinks on this line: 24...Qxg5 25. fxg5 gxh3 26. Bd4 Rxf1+ 27. Qxf1 Rf8 28. Qe1 Bg4 29. Qe3 Bf3+ 30. Kg1 Bg2 31. Qe1 a6 32. Bf2 Be5 33. Bg3 Bxg3 34. hxg3 Rf1+ 35. Qxf1 Bxf1 36. Kxf1 Kg7 37. Kf2 Kg6 38. g4 Kxg5 39. Kg3 e3...
May-17-25  King.Arthur.Brazil: In the game line, it was possible: 30... Tf8 (31. Qxe4? Bf3+ or 31. Bd6? R8 32. B moves Rd1 also wins the W♕). 31. Ba7 Rd8 32. Bd4 Bxd4 33. cxd4 Rxd4. The game's move finished quicker!
May-17-25  Czx: Finally got one: 24...gxh3 is best.

An Englishman: Good Evening: OTB, would have played the game continuation, but as a speculative sacrifice, having no idea how the game might end. Black probably foresaw the entire last 8 moves of the game.

scormus: I thought I'd got this one. But SF shows me I hadn't. Sigh....
May-17-25  mel gibson: I couldn't see any worthwhile move.

Stockfish 17 calls it a draw:

24. .. gxh3

(24. .. gxh3 (1. ... gxh3 2.Bxa7 Rbd8 3.Rxg6 hxg6 4.Kg1 Rd7 5.Qxe4 Bf5 6.Qe3 Rfd8 7.Bb6 Rd3 8.Qe7 R8d6 9.Qe8+ Kh7 10.Qxb5 Re6 11.Bf2 Rd2 12.Qxc4 Re4 13.Qc7 g5 14.Bg3 Rg2+ ) 0.00/66 166)

It's a draw, score = 0.00

If I force SF to play the game ply, White wins:

24. Rg5 Qxg5

25. fxg5 (25. fxg5 (1.fxg5 gxh3 2.Rxf8+ Rxf8 3.Kg1 a5 4.Qh5 Rf7 5.Qh4 Rf5 6.Qxe4 Re5 7.Qa8+ Bf8 8.Kf2 Rf5+ 9.Ke2 b4 10.Qe8 Bf7 11.Qd7 Re5 12.Kf2 Be6 13.Qe8 Rf5+ 14.Kg1 Bf7 ) +3.10/44 209)

core for White +3.10 depth 44.

May-17-25  vajeer: I selected gxh3 over Qxg6 as the former offers a chance to black to get a closed position after Bf5. That all I could see apart from having pawns planted ar h3 and e4 hopefully proving their worth later on. Thought it would favor black slightly but was surprised to see draw evaluation by computer.

May-17-25  Hercdon: SF sez Black chose the wrong 24th move given the following: 25.fxg5 gxh3 26. Rxf8+ Rxf8 27. Kg1 a5 28. Qh5 Bf7 29. Qxh3 b4 30. Qg4 bxc3 31. bxc3 Bxc3 32. h4 Re8 33. h5 Re6 34. h6 Bb4 35. Qd1 Rd6 36. Qa4 Rd3 37. Kf2 Ra3 38. Qd7 Rxa2+ 39. Kg1

Evaluated +2.35, favorable for white

May-17-25  Hercdon: White erred with their 29th move where SF prefers 29.Kg1 Rg4+ 30. Kf1 Rxg5 31. Qe3 Bf6 32. Bd4 Kf7 33. Qxe4 Rf5+ 34. Ke2 h6 35. Bxf6 Kxf6 36. Qh4+ Kg6 37. Qe7 Re5+ 38. Kf1 Rf5+ 39. Ke1 Re5+ 40. Kf2 h5 41. Qe8+ Kg5 42. Qh8 Rd5

Evaluation +1.88 (29 ply) for white
