An Englishman: Good Evening: The opening reminds me of the games my chums and I played in university--when we had gotten drunk out of our minds.

fredthebear: If instead 9...gxNf5 10.gxf5 threatens the restricted Black knight. Thus 10...Nxd4 11.Nxd4 gets the piece back, and White has an open g-file where Kg8 sits. So, Black chooses to tolerate 9.Nf5 and then off comes the precious Indian Bg7.

This game shows that Black's 4-step castling without regard to the center or his kingside knight is not the way to play. 7...d5 comes too late, although capturing en passant 8.exd6? would've opened up a retreat square for the Black knight 8...Nd5 and suddenly it's White's uncastled position that becomes less stable. Therefore, 8.Ng3 as actually played looks ugly but seems best, followed by 9.Nf5.

White remains slightly better after the queens are removed, then castling opposite 17.0-0-0 w/the bishop pair against the isolani.

This opening resembles a game from the previous year: A Tang vs M Chigaev, 2021

HeMateMe: Vidit will probably never become world champion and will most certainly not ever surpass Vishy Anand.

fredthebear: Gee willikers <Stonehenge>, 18...Bf5! looks ridiculous, but it just might work. Did it take four months to find?
