Feb-07-22  GreenLantern: Wow! A Fide Grand Prix game has concluded without any comments. Not a good sign for this website :-( Has everyone gone to Chess24?

fredthebear: <GreenLatern> Where have you been in the past year? Glad to see you back here.

<Yuridmi> It seems that 57 moves is well beyond a typical GM draw.

Feb-08-22  GreenLantern: It's a long story <Fred>, and I'm surprised anyone noticed. But I appreciate the welcome back.
Apr-14-22  Raggmunk: 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Bf4 We understand that with this move, Rapport will create a London-style pawn structure. 3.d5 with this move black moves towards center and opens diagonal of black bishop. 4.cxd5 in this point rapport could have played 4.e3 by slightly delaying cxd5. 4.exd5 5.e3 Bd6 now blacks want to quickly exchange bishops. 6.Bxd6 I think Rapport could have retreat bishops to g3 square instead of changing from d6 square. In such cases, even if Black continues with Bxg3, position is almost close to draw. At least that's what engines say. Of course, we should not forget half-open H file, but it's not that much of problem. 6.Qxd6 7.Bd3 O-O 8.Nc3 Bg4 now Black threatens queen. if rapport plays f3 here, e3 pawn is weakened. If he plays Nf3 instead of f3, that would also be absurd because queen would be stuck. 9.Qb3 Nbd7 (now what would have happened if white had absurdly taken 10.Qxb7? 10.Rfb8 11.Qa6 Qxa6 12.Bxa6 Rxb2.) 10.h3 Be6 11.Nf3 c5 black attacks center. Now rapport he sees good idea. If d3 had retreat his bishop, c4 would have come anyway, which would have been a loss of pace for White. white plays Qa3 instead, putting his opponents queen in pin. 12.Qa3 Rfc8 13.O-O and Qf8 14.dxc5 Nxc5 now black, wants to take the bishop. In response, Rapport thought, you can take bishop if you want, I'll maneuver my knight. 15.Ne2 Bd7 is prophylactic move. 16.Nfd4 Ne6 17.Qb3 cause rapport don't wants exchange queens. Rc7 Black wants to control C file with their rooks. 21.Ne2 He made this move because if black queen had remained on C file, on next move would have threatened queen with Rc1. other than that, all other moves except Ne2 would worsen white's position.
