ajk68: Computer seems to think 27...exd5? was the losing mistake. Qxd5 would have maintained a small edge.
Mar-08-22  goodevans: <ajk68> 27...exd5? was indeed a mistake but in this massively complex game a lot happened after that.

White struggled over the next few moves and by <32...Qxb2> things were back to being even. White then erred with <33.Ndb3?> (33.Ne6!) to hand the advantage to Black then <35.Rc7+?> (35.Rxd4) which was actually losing.

Black then missed <37...Kf5!> which would have sealed victory but the actual losing move was <39...Qb1+?> when 39...f5 was needed to escape the mating threats.

Mar-11-22  goodevans: I've submitted this for GOTD for the simple reason that I really enjoyed following it live and hope others will get similar reward playing through it.

The game was the last in Pool D and, with Shankland having drawn his game fairly quickly, either of these two could join him in the play-offs to see who would progress to the knock-out stage. In the end Andreikin's victory meant he won the group outright and so no play-off was needed.

Both players really went for it producing a game of mind-boggling complexity. Not surprising then that, particularly as they approached the time-control, both players made mistakes and both missed clear wins.

My main problem though has been to think of a half-decent pun. In the end I settled for a reference to Bacrot's decision to reach the time control with a series of checks. That decision ultimately cost him the game.

"Checking Out"

Anyone with a better pun should feel free to submit it with my blessing!

HeMateMe: Wonderful attack by andreiken. Black plans to win at g7. 38. g4 is the limiting move that completes the attack.
