<The opening moves of this game have not been found. A sequence such as 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Nf6 4. O-O Nxe4 5. d3 Nd6 6. a4 Qf6 7. Be3 Be7 8. d4 exd4 9. Nxd4 Nxb5 10. axb5 Ne5 11. Re1 d6 12. Nc3 Be6 13. Ra4 O-O 14. Qa1 Qg6 seems plausible.>

This is the position that Forster evidently found in the <Birmingham Daily Gazette> of January 5th, and continued as far as <35...Re6> when the game was adjourned. The remaining moves come from the same paper of January 10th.

The actual opening moves are to be found in the London <Standard> of January 10th. It gives the game as far as <41. Nc3 Drawn>.

The game can now be appreciated in its entirety.
