Knightf7mate: Hikaru wins by a rook sac at move 18. The opportunity for the subsequent knight fork was created by black’s 13th move, rfd1. Watch then how Hikaru quickly realigns his pieces to set up the trap. At move 17..Ne4, black probably expected an exchange of minor pieces. Instead he loses a pawn and sees a triple knight fork. Shazam!

More tactical fireworks ensue as black recovers and creates a mate threat on the long diagonal. Hikaru’s second knight then forces a queen trade.

When the smoke clears after more pieces are traded, Hikaru has a passed rook pawn and a won endgame.

Hikaru at his best!

Mar-05-23  boz: Naka's knight play is other worldly.
