Sally Simpson: This game won the brilliancy prize for this event of which I was the judge.

However, unknown to me Jacob had entered one his own games from the last round and an arbiter had shown it to someone else and forgot to put it in the box I supplied for the Brillo Games. If I had seen that game Jacob would have won it.

I have submitted the other Jacob game but it is not yet posted - I'll link to it when it's up.

A great game and no doubt a worthy winner. White's attack was indeed quite brilliant but in fact Black too played pretty well for much of it.

<36...Rxb2?!> seems a tad risky and even provocative. Had Black not seen White's <37.Rxf7!> coming or did he think he could fend off the attack and maybe even start one of his own?

<38...Bd6?> was the point of no return. After <38...Kg8!> it seems White would have had nothing better than to go back with <39.Nf5> and see if he could find a different way to polish Black off. My guess is that he would have.
