It appears White was expecting 57...Rxa3 here. OOPS! watch out for ROOKS!

Sam now has to win with Black v a good player else he is on the next plane home.

offramp: The winner seemed to have been named after a business doomed to fail, but in this game he was a success.
Aug-05-23  EvanTheTerrible: The most natural name for this GOTD. Maybe this will make it into Dvoretsky's next book as another tragicomedy.

  al wazir: Bo-o-oring.

White was bored to death.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Shankland pressed much too hard for the win vs. a much lower rated opponent. Black played very good defense, keeping the game even throughout. He did esp. well to avoid playing ...d5 for as long as possible, waiting until he had exchanged enough pieces to neutralize any potential King side attack.
Aug-05-23  NoChessPlayer: Very offensive pun

Check It Out: Perfect pun. It says what everyone thinks but keeps it clean.

Teyss: The opposite of yesterday's GOTD: average game, funny pun. (No criticism of the last part, please.)
Aug-05-23  goodevans: Brilliant pun! 😂
Aug-05-23  whiteshark: A beautiful example of the inherent <power of two towers>.
Aug-05-23  syracrophy: The pun😂😂😂
Aug-05-23  dumbgai: Quite uncommon for a player of Shanklands level to lose this endgame.
Aug-07-23  NoChessPlayer: American humor :)
