The position looks like a fairly standard middle-game.

After 12 moves the World Champion was in trouble.

12. Nf5. To me it looks that Aronian has the choice of a dozen attacking moves.
I reckon that Ding Liren has a lost position at move 12.

I think White could castle, Ke1-c1, and the QR stays at d1.
Anyway, Aronian played
15...gxf6+, a dreaded double check.
Ding Liren should now resign, but he hung on for a few more moves.
