 | | An Englishman: Good Morning: Can't imagine that Black can survive 23...cxb4; 24.axb4,Qxb4; 25.Rxf6,Bd7. So 23...c4; 24.dxc4,Bxc4; 25.Nxc4,bxc4 and White now has the extra weaknesses for the Alternating Maneuvers of which Nimzowitsch was so fond. Perhaps Black has to surrender the c5 pawn and hope. |
Apr-05-24 | | vonKrolock: e4-e5 with a decisive advantage is a dream: not for now,, but in a near future |
Apr-05-24 | | AdolfoAugusto: Hope Abasov will hold. I don't see how white can get a significant advantage, |

 | | Sally Simpson: Hi Cass,
:) And it is two days overdue because I've hit a barren spell. Blogs Block. I do not want to fall back on this event, everyone and their pet parrot will be doing it. Maybe I will, one game, just need a good blunder/trap to get my teeth into. A good old fashioned ?? move and find a chunk of RHP players who have fallen for the same trick. Naka's bar has slide down a bit. Just seen a few good ideas. Bb6 pinning a Knight was one. Fabs has banged in b4 for the other weakness. Hello a6. Nepo and Fiz are having great fun. Pragg and Gukesh, white has a Knight on f7 both players are arguing about Pragg 20 minutes up on the clock. |

Apr-05-24 | | EvanTheTerrible: I am watching the games with an eval bar, but without the actual lines showing. The broadcast I am following (ChessDojo) does not use either. |
Apr-05-24
 | | Sally Simpson: I'll let you off Evan :) but what are you listening to commentary for, if these people were any good they would be playing there....er...ignore that last bit. Abasov and rid himself of the a6 weakness and defending f6 with lateral Rook. |
Apr-05-24 | | EvanTheTerrible: I need the commentary as I am far too weak myself. |

Apr-05-24
 | | An Englishman: Good Morning: Nakamura has resigned, while this game has gotten complex. If Abasov plays 32...Kh8, what does Caruana have in mind? |
Apr-05-24 | | vonKrolock: Rook will have to leave the fourth horizontal soon, White Pawns will be soon all en prise except g2 h3 ... white should have some dynamic compensation ... (otherwise..) |
Apr-05-24 | | vonKrolock: well, for me Kh8 looked better than h7-h6, because a f5-f4 would then be a bit unpleasant, but ... |
Apr-05-24
 | | Check It Out: uh oh, Abasov is in trouble |
Apr-05-24
 | | Sally Simpson: Abasov has blundered at the last hurdle in slight time trouble. |
Apr-05-24 | | vonKrolock: Raf1 looks fine |
Apr-05-24
 | | Check It Out: round 1 all draws, round 2 could be all decisive games. Nepo and Gukesh are looking strong. |
Apr-05-24 | | vonKrolock: any rook to a7 instead of Kh8 wasnt a defense ?! |
Apr-05-24 | | BxChess: Wow. That ended quickly. I thought Abasov was turning the tables. But like me he must not have seen 36.Raf1. It was a well-fought game. |
Apr-06-24 | | Petrosianic: <BxChess: Second day in a row that Caruana aims Alekhine's gun.> No, he didn't, Baldrick. Alekhine's Gun only occurs when the Queen is at the back of the line. You keep making this same mistake, thinking it won't be a mistake if you make it often enough. It will still be a mistake no matter how many times you make it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alekh... |
Apr-06-24 | | Cassandro: <Petrosianic> No matter the exact definition, I myself have always considered a lineup with the queen in the middle as a form of Alekhine's gun. In a time where a man can magically become a woman just by defining him(her..)self as such, I think <BxChess> and I are entitled to call R+Q+R an Alekhine's gun even if Wikipedia disagrees with us and finds it imprecise... |

 | | PawnSac: <BxChess: Wow. That ended quickly. I thought Abasov was turning the tables.> I wouldn't call it "turning the tables", but after 33.Rf2 Rb8 (pressuring the knight so that after Bxc4 white doesn't have time for Rxf5 since the piece is hanging) seems to hold ok. But black started to go wrong with the immediate ..Bxc4 34.Rxf5 and white has less than a pawn plus. The losing move was ..Bxb3? (Qe6 maintaining some hold on f7 was better), but black was determined to win the A pawn. After Qxb3 Rxa5 36. Raf1 white controls the 7th rank and it's game over. This is the difference between a 2650 and 2800 player. The 2800 plays more consistently. |

Apr-06-24 | | Cassandro: <CIO> Ain't that the truth :) |
