Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-16-24  Twilight of the Idol: In the right funhouse mirror, black's position looks like a really bad Sicilian Dragon.

27. ... Rf4? is pretty bad, but black's position was already difficult. You have some compensation for the pawn, namely major piece play on the king's wing, but it doesn't look adequate.

I'd have speculated on 12. ... hxg4!? 13. fxg4 Nxg4 14. h5 Nc4!?, aiming to keep the LSB out of the attack and capitalize on the extra pawn. After 15. Bxc4 dxc4 16. Nxg4 Bxg4 17. hxg6 Qxd4 looks good for black, although it's still complicated.

Also, I'm not a Sicilian player by trade, but 14. ... Qb6 looks limp. You manage to trade off the LSB, but there's no attack to be had afterward. Instead, black just ends up under huge pressure on the k-side without counterplay.

Of course, I'm not a GM. I don't even play one on TV. No reasonable observer would doubt that Mr. Robson understands this game much better than I.

Nov-03-24  cehertan: White missed mate in 17 on move 47.
