May-25-25  Olavi: Did Ivanchuk lose on time again? It looks quite unclear.
May-25-25  areknames: Losing on time in 25 moves is pretty weird. If there is a 30 seconds increment how is it even possible for players of this calibre?
May-25-25  areknames: Or does the increment only come into effect after 40 moves?

You see, I'm a relic from the adjournment and sealed moves age so all this increment stuff is Greek to me.

May-26-25  Olavi: I'm sure the increment is from move one. There is just the odd tournament (if even that anymore) where it starts from move (40 or) 60.

marcusantoinerome: In the Norway Chess that starts today the increment starts at move 41.

tamar: 18…g5 overlooked 19 Nc5! and Ivanchuk went down to 3 minutes looking for a way out.

The problem with being such a strong player is that he could see no defense against the queen coming down the a file with 22 Qa8 when he has to worry about a new queen appearing with Nxc6 and the b pawn running.

He got down to seconds, but could not make the moves in time when Rapport let him escape.

tamar: Though the chess.com relay shows Ivanchuk with 37 seconds when 1-0 is recorded.

Did he resign?
