Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-05-14  zanzibar: I would like to know how the Tadashi name got here... it should be referenced.

The contemporaneous <Chess Reports> reporting of the 1954 tournament list him as "J. Kagetsu".

<crawfb5> notes NYT reporting gives <Jack T. Kagetsu>, and I found this:

<Jack Kagetsu a chemical engineering sudent>

here: http://www.newspapers.com/newspage/... (July 8, 1954 Ottawa Journal chess article)

I did find a reference for Tadashi here:

http://newspaperarchive.com/ca/albe... (Lethbridge Herald: Thursday, July 15, 1948 - Page 13)

<Junior Chess Tournament TORONTO. Tadashi Kagetsu, Union Carbide engineer ; April 22, 1931 -- June 5, 2006

The Buffalo News (Buffalo, NY)
August 17, 2006

A memorial service for Tadashi Jack Kagetsu, Ph.D., a retired director of engineering for Union Carbide Corp., will be at noon Saturday in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto.

Dr. Kagetsu, formerly of Lewiston, died June 5 in his home in Chapel Hill, N.C., where he had lived since 2004. He was 75.

During his 30-year career with Union Carbide, he was director of engineering for the Mining & Metals Division in Niagara Falls from 1965 to 1986, when he retired. He received two patents in 1980 for improved techniques for recovering chromium. …>

Dec-05-14  zanzibar: And excerpts from Evans <New Ideas in Chess> discussion about Kagetsu--Evans (Hollywood Open, 1954)

<Evans writes of this position: "This attacker does not always benefit from open lines. He should try to close the center before embarking on a wing attack. This cannot always be done. The defender must keep his lines of communication open, and this requires a fluid center so that he may divert pieces from the other wing to the defense of the attacked wing".>

And supposedly Evans gives White resigning, but my score of the game continues on for five more moves to White being mated.
