Art dealer Blankensteiner considered to be one of Copenhagen's leading chess players in the 1830-40s, together with Tobacco manufacturer Chr. Holm.

In Nordisk Skaktidende 1873, Blankensteiner is described as follows:

"Blankensteiner had nothing brilliant in his play; He was a student of the old school (the peasants are the soul of the game), which Philidor had formed; He played considerably, sometimes too slowly, but developed his game with security and great impact".
