Telemus: ChessBase has † 04.08.1972, see https://players.chessbase.com/en/pl..., which is during the Spassky-Fischer match.

He played in the 3rd championship of the GDR 1952 (last place). I'll check the only GDR chess magazine asap.

Feb-26-19  whiteshark: nothing in GDR "Schach" magazine 08-12/1972

G00gell shows a link to https://www.cia.gov/library/reading... --> pdf file, but the name within the doc is <Kurt Volland> - so again nada

  Telemus: Thank you, <whiteshark>!

Since Gaige has only the dob, we can probably exclude DSZ and a few others. Maybe Engelhardts Schach-Jahrbuch?!

Oct-24-21  Alan McGowan: Gaige shows the dob as 26-02-1898 and gives his source as the Deutsche Schachzeitung 1941, p97.

However, that page, which begins a report on Vordank's winning of the DSZ's 10th International CC Tournament, actually shows the dob as 28.2.1898.

Vordank appears in the Engelhardt Schach-Jahrbuch editions of 1964, 1966 and 1968 (at Malvenweg 1, Jena), but he is not listed in the next edition for 1970/71.

Oct-24-21  Alan McGowan: I am correcting my correction. Vordank did not win the 10th International DSZ CC event, he was 2nd to Seibold.
