Roy Gerald Fitzgerald was an attorney, soldier (Army Lt. Colonel), licensed pilot, banker, and a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives representing Ohio's Third District from 1921 to 1931. In 1905, he won the Dayton, Ohio Chess Club Championship with 26 wins and 1 loss. He was president of the Tri-State Chess League and a former tri-state chess champion. In 1921, he was one of three congressmen that played against 10 year old Reshevsky in a simul. He was a collector of chess sets and rare chess books.
