  MissScarlett: Falkirk Herald, July 2nd 1924, p.3:

<We regret to notice the death reported of Mr W. P. Macbean, a well-known London amateur and chess writer. Mr Macbean was a Scot by birth, or descent, and, as such, he occasionally played, many years ago, in the annual S.C.A. championship tournaments. He was a fairly regular competitor in various English events, and played with considerable success as a strong first-class entrant. We note his death occurred towards the end of May.>

There's probably a notice to this effect in the relevant <BCM>.

Nov-16-17  Nosnibor: He did not earn a bean from the prizes and not surprising because his play is dire.

  Tabanus: Playing for "Holloway" in 1900. That's in Islington, London, where William Patrick MacBean was born (of parents from Scotland), baptized (27 Aug 1876), lived, and died. He was a "Cashier" in 1910. Married to Beatrice 16 Sep 1899, son William born soon after, and daughter Louisa Maud b. abt 1904.

  MissScarlett: <guys>

Speak for yourself.

<Jun-??-24>

On what basis? But it seems clear, he was 47 when he died.

<his play is dire.>

That's a bit harsh. I'll submit a game he won.

  Tabanus: <<Jun-??-24> Just the England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index saying "June 1924".

End of May still possible. A thorough newspaper search may give the answer.
