Santa Barbara, May 20. James H. Smith, son of Attorney and Mrs. J. Will Smith, and their only child, died late yesterday at a San Francisco hospital after an operation for appendicitis. He was born in Santa Barbara 20 years ago, and a year ago completed his university education. For the last two years he was employed in the central offices of the Standard Oil company. Both parents were summoned to San Francisco, Mrs. Smith leaving several days ago and Attorney Smith going north last night. He was a grandson of Undersheriff R. D. Smith. News of his death came as a shock to a wide circle of friends. The funeral services will be held here.
