David Tianjian Peng was born in Illinois. He was awarded the title of Candidate Master after winning the Festival Panamericano de la Juventud 2013 Under-10 in Brazil. He won bronze behind Mahammad Muradli (gold) and Sarin Nihal (silver) at the World U12 Championship that was staged in Halkidiki in November 2015.
