<ALBERT W. PUTNAM CHOSEN A TRUSTEE

Was Active in Undergraduate Affairs—Served as Major in Recent War.

Albert W. Putnam, lawyer, veteran of the world war, and in his college days prominent as an athlete, has been elected a life trustee of the University, it was announced last night. Mr. Putnam is a member of the law firm of Winthrop and Ames of this city, and is a member of the Bar Association, the Lawyers, the University, the Alpha Delta Phi, and the Columbia University Clubs.

The newly elected trustee was graduated from Columbia College with the class of '97 and from the Columbia Law School in '00. As an undergraduate he was a member of the Freshman crew in '94 was a sub on the Varsity of '95 and held a permanent berth there in '96 and '97, rowing bow in the latter year. In '98 he coached the Freshman crew. He also played football on the class and Varsity teams and was a member of the hockey teams of '97, '98 and '99. Putnam's activities were not confined to athletics alone, however.

He was a Spec man, was on the Columbian board, and was for three years treasurer of his class and in his senior year its vice-president. He made Philo and Phi Beta Kappa.

During the war Putnam served as a captain and later as a major of cavalry. He entered the service thru the National Guard and was later transferred to command Co. A, 105th Machine Gun Battalion, serving there until he was promoted to the rank of major on February 18, 1918.>
