May-21-18  hemy: Wilno (Poland, today Vilnius, Lithuania) city Chess Society, was founded in 1932. It was multinational, but led by Jewish activists, among whom a group of the best players: Beniamin Berkum, Abram Flaks, Natan Segal, Izydor Flaks and Natan Judelewicz.

Borkum shared 9-11 place with 6.5/15.
1st was Izaak Schaechter (Lwow) with 12/15. The tournament was held in Krakow from 19th to 30th of November, the closing ceremony was on December 1st.

2 games of Borkum from this tournament were published in the chess magazine "Szachista", number 12, 1938, p. 183: The game against Grynfeld (who was 3rd with 10.5/11) and a winner, Izaak Schaechter.

May-22-18  hemy: In January 1938 Borkum won the Wilna city championship. ("Wiener Schach Zeitung", Nr. 6, February 12, 1938, p. 100).

In February 1938 he was a winner of the North Eastern Borderlands individual championship with 6/8. The tournament was held in Wilna, a "capital" city of the North Eastern Borderlands of Poland. Participated players from Wilna (Borkum, Kowalski i Skuratowicz), Bialystok (Zabłudowski, Nowodworski, Wisznia), Grodno (Ginzburg, Jaśkiewicz) and Lida (Lidski). 2nd was Lidski with the same score as Borkum - 6/8. 3rd place took Zabludowski from Bialystok (5.5/8).

An article about this tournament was published in the chess magazine "Szachista", Number 2, February 25, 1938, pp. 23-24. It included a game Borkum - Ginzburg from the tournament and also a game Zawodow – Borkum from Wilna city championship.
