May-22-18 | | hemy: In January 1938 Borkum won the Wilna city championship. ("Wiener Schach Zeitung", Nr. 6, February 12, 1938, p. 100). In February 1938 he was a winner of the North Eastern Borderlands individual championship with 6/8.
The tournament was held in Wilna, a "capital" city of the North Eastern Borderlands of Poland. Participated players from Wilna (Borkum,
Kowalski i Skuratowicz), Bialystok (Zabłudowski, Nowodworski, Wisznia), Grodno (Ginzburg, Jaśkiewicz) and Lida (Lidski).
2nd was Lidski with the same score as Borkum - 6/8. 3rd place took Zabludowski from Bialystok (5.5/8). An article about this tournament was published in the chess magazine "Szachista", Number 2, February 25, 1938, pp. 23-24.
