Sally Simpson: She played both Morphy and Capablanca. That is pretty unique.

MissScarlett: The only documentary record I can find of her early life is the 1851 census when she's a boarder in the <Hebrew Girls' Boarding School> in Palestine Place, Bethnall Green.

<Palestine Place was founded in 1809 as the centre of operations of the London Society for promoting Christianity amongst the Jews. According to the text at the bottom of this print, it consisted of a chapel, a school for Hebrew boys and girls, a Jewish Converts’ institution and a Hebrew College for Jewish missionaries. The Society targeted poor Jewish children. The Jews’ Free School opened in 1817 partly to counter the Society’s attempt to convert Jewish children to Christianity.> https://www.londonmuseum.org.uk/col...

Her age is given as 15, though she would have actually have been 14 if the DOB of October 7th 1836 is accurate.

According to an online family tree, her mother Sarah died in 1839, but her father Joseph lived to 1861. As she was not yet 21 upon her marriage in 1856, her father would have to give permission for the union. As <Thomas H> was about 50, it all seems a bit dodgy to my mind. Of course, we're lacking any official record of this wedding.
