  Tabanus: Linlithgowshire Gazette, 8 June 1923, p. 5:

<We much regret to hear of the death of Mr H. B. Lund, of Stockport, one of the strongest chess players in Manchester district, and one who has been well-known to us, and other older Scottish players, for fully 20 years - particularly in connection with matches, Glasgow v. Manchester, and Scotland v. Northern Counties of England. Mr Lund was a very fine player, a nice companion, and in recent years since the war seemed to have been playing stronger chess than ever. The news of his death is a sad surprise. We quote some apt remarks by Mr Woollard, of "Yorks. Observer Budget": - "Our own acquaintance with Mr Lund dates back to the first Blackpool tournament of the Northern Counties' Union, twenty one years ago, when Mr Lund was an extremely smart, handsome, well set-up young man entering his thirtietth year, presenting in his personal appearance the very antithesis of the chess player of the comic cartoonist. Five years earlier Mr Lund had caught the then prevalent gold fever and joined the rush to Klondike, where the hardships he underwent may have inflicted permanent damage to his constitution, though outwardly he presented every symptom of vigour and vitality, until about a couple of years ago, when he had a very severe illness, from which he never fully recovered. Mr Lund’s chess successes include the winning of the Cheshire Championship four times and the championship of the now defunct North Manchester Club five times. He also won the championiship tournament of the Manchester Club in 1921, and was the runner-up in the following year.">
