  MissScarlett: Devon & Exeter Gazette, June 21st 1929, p.15:

<The death has taken place of Mr. Ernest Jones Bateman, of 11, Portland-avenue. Deceased, who had been a resident of the town for 25 years, was 67, and the second surviving son of the late Rev. J. B. Jones-Bateman, of Pentre Manor, North Wales, sometime Rector of Sheldon, Warwickshire. Mr. Jones-Bateman, owing to delicate health, took no active part in local affairs, but was a cordial supporter of local charities and a member of the Exmouth Club and the Exmouth Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. During his former residence in London he was a well-known chess player, and took part in a number of important championship congresses. He leaves a widow.>
