(born 1885, died Jul-22-1937, 52 years old) Russia

Gavriil Andreevich Ufimtsev was the father of Anatoly Ufimtsev. 1 He was born in the city of Biysk, in the Altai Krai region of Siberia. He later moved to Omsk, becoming a government sports official (inspector) in charge of chess and checkers. He also went on to become an avid tournament and match chess player.

On July 22, 1937 Gavriil Ufimtsev was arrested by the NKVD. He was charged for counter-revolutionary activities, and sentenced to death by the Omsk NKVD on September 17, 1937. He was shot two days later. On May 14, 1957 he was rehabilitated by the military tribunal of the Siberian Military District.2
